Give Me 5 for Stroke

May was National Stroke Prevention Month and FRH wants to continue to provide the awareness and signs of patients with strokes.

Give Me 5 for Stroke is a campaign that gives 5 "awarenesses" to stroke symptoms:

  1. Walk: Is your balance off?
  2. Talk: Is your speech slurred or difficult?
  3. Smile: Is your face droopy on one side?
  4. Reach: Is one side of your body weak or numb?
  5. See: Is your vision all or partially impaired?

Experiencing any one of the above symptoms can be a sign of a stroke. Even if the symptoms subside or go away you should seek medical help immediately. Time is essential when dealing with a stroke or a person experiencing stroke-like symptoms. FRH and the American Heart Association encourage people to learn the sign of a stroke, which can happen suddenly. Not every person has all of the symptoms but you should take action immediately.

FRH has free brochures, hand-outs and information in the front lobby for people interested in learning more or people who have experienced or have loved ones who have experienced a stroke.
